Consume All Media! Adventures of Captain Marvel: “Chapter Eight: Boomerang”

Joe Heath is a big fan of comic books and watching things in order. So they made this spreadsheet containing every serial, short, film, television episode, commercial, motion comic, and web series based on a comic book. Now they're watching them all. Previously, Joe watched the seventh chapter of Adventures of Captain Marvel. This time, they continue with the eighth chapter.

Adventures of Captain Marvel: “Chapter Eight: Boomerang” - 17:14 (Available on Tubi.)

RETCON! Billy gets his gag off, turns into Captain Marvel, and escapes with Betty.

When Billy learns that Betty shot The Scorpion in the hand, he sneakily gets everyone to sign a paper to see who The Scorpion is. Turns out Dr. Lang (George Pembroke) has a bandage on his hand!

Billy steals Lang’s coat and his car to see if he can find any nefarious clues at Lang’s house. Meanwhile, not realizing Billy has taken a different car, some henchmen rig Billy’s car to explode when it hits 50 mph.

Whitey drives Lang home in Billy’s car, but Whitey doesn’t drive above 50 because he’s a law-abiding citizen.

Billy’s disguise gets him into Lang’s garage, but he’s caught by some other henchmen. Billy is knocked out and left in the garage with the car running. Billy eventually wakes up and manages to say “Shazam!” through a coughing fit and busts his way out of the garage. He attacks the henchmen, throwing one of them into a tree.

Whitey shows up with Lang and Billy is ready to interrogate him. They go inside and Lang has an explanation for everything. He’s also had his butler secretly gas the room, putting Billy and Whitey to sleep. Lang tells his butler that he needs to get Billy somewhere safe or the Scorpion’s men will kill him. So he’s definitely NOT The Scorpion.

They don’t give a shit about Whitey and leave him asleep in his chair.

As Lang drives away with Billy, the treed henchmen awaken and follow behind in Billy’s rigged-to-explode car. They speed up to get close to Lang’s car, hit 50 mph, and explode. CLIFF...hanger?

Should you watch it, though?: A bunch of stupid things happen in this one. The cliffhanger is the bad guys blowing themselves up. Lang has a bandage on his hand for reasons we are never told. The Scorpion mentions having a plan to cover up his injured hand, but we never learn what that is either.

Also, why the hell is this episode called “Boomerang”?

I mean, at this point, you can’t skip it, but it’s the worst.

Tune in next time for Adventures of Captain Marvel "Chapter Nine: Dead Man's Trap" (Available on Tubi.)
